Latest: Topography by Rich Pellegrin featuring Neil Welch

"An escape from the mind-numbing necessities of modern life… A subtle resonance that glows within the music's spaciousness imbues the soundscapes with a spirituality born of the natural world." - All About Jazz (★★★★)

‘Topography is a masterful celebration of connection—between musicians, environment, and audience. Pellegrin’s improvisational compositions and talent complement Welch’s earthy, textural approach, resulting in a soundscape that mirrors the spirit of the PNW and offers listeners a meditative escape within the rhythms and beauty of the natural world. -Earshot Jazz (written by David Benedict)

Misc. Neil Welch Recording Projects

12 Moons Project (2013)

365 unique improvisations

In 2013 Neil committed himself to documenting a solo improvisation each day— 365 pieces in total including soprano, alto and tenor saxophones. Each improvisation was crafted in its own particular fashion. Some were manically recorded in the middle of the night, others frantically documented between commitments, or or labored over for hours on end. Each piece had the fullest and best of Neil's energy. He recorded in forests, bedrooms, parking garages, garbage dumps, alpine hikes, inside cars, and on and on. 12 Moons is a document of Neil's life and work in a single year.

Continuous Resonance Project (2014-16)

Following in the footsteps of Neil’s recording project 12 Moons, Continuous Resonance was a solo performance documentation project with a strong connection to place and time. Each piece was performed acoustically, recorded by Neil himself using a simple field recorder, and uploaded with no post-production manipulation whatsoever. There are over 200 improvisations in this project, each made available at no charge to the public.
