Tonight I play acoustic solo works for tenor, alto, soprano, C Soprano and C Melody saxophones. The Woodland Theatre, formerly known as The Josephine is one of a handful of artist-run venues left in Seattle. I've played this space numerous times in the past. The room lends itself well to acoustic exploration, and this will be my first solo performance at the Woodland.

Tonight's show is curated by the fantastic violist Noel Kennon. Performers to include the incomparable Lori Goldstein on cello, Mike Gebhardt on drums, and more to be announced.

Saxophonist and composer Neil Welch surveys what he calls the "resonance palette," culling sound and and silence from the horn through methods that bring the listener deep inside the saxophone's underbelly. Whether the sound whirs near the horn or blasts in guttural wails, Neil's solo work confronts the acoustical limits of the room. Performed acoustically and without amplification, his techniques such as multiphonics (naturally generated chords), semitones, chirps, scrapes and wails are paired with athletic melodic cycles played in the extreme ranges of the instrument. At the Woodland Theatre Neil will perform on the tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones, but also the lesser heard C-Melody and C-soprano horns.
