Neil Welch Continuous Resonance Solo Project 2016 Date: 02/03/2016 Location: Practice Room B at South Whidbey High School Instrument: Tenor saxophone Notes: This piece was executed in a two-fold fashion. Firstly, I began by singing throat tones into the horn while using various fingerings, but I did not allow any standard pitches to speak from the horn because of my loose embouchure. While doing this I listened closely to the overtones unfolding in the room and worked with tongue, throat, and air manipulations to bring out high whistle tones. The horn truly became a new voice box. I would then apply pressure in my embouchure to allow a fingered pitch to speak while incorporating the sung pitch into a chord. I would then continue to explore various harmonies by changing the fingerings and therefore altering the chords structures in doing so.
